May 2022

The Hong Kong Primary Care Conference (HKPCC) 2022, organised by the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians, is just around the corner as it will be held online from 17th to 19th of June 2022. The Conference theme this year is entitled, “Committed. Versatile. Ever-growing: Primary Healthcare in the Time of COVID”, which has captured the spirits behind family doctors working with the primary healthcare team in helping the patients in need during this extraordinary period of time. When we are challenged by threats of any kind, there are opportunities that go with these threats. We have the opportunities to discover new knowledge, learn new skills, and apply new technologies in the fight against the virus during the pandemic. We have demonstrated our commitments, flexibility and versatility throughout the fight against the virus. Family doctors have led the way in providing accessible care and support to patients in the community where they are needed most. In this year’s Conference, we have the privilege of bringing together international and local experts, family doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, and other primary care providers in sharing advances in clinical knowledge, expertise and practices.

The Conference continues to provide a convenient platform for potential collaborations and networking opportunities amongst academics, practising clinicians and management colleagues alike, thanks to the great work of the HKPCC Organising Committee and the Scientific Subcommittee. The Scientific Programme is packed with plenaries and seminar sessions, including hot topics on the challenges related to the pandemic, long COVID, chronic disease management, child psychiatric conditions, end of life care, clinical updates, research, medical legal and musculoskeletal workshops, health research, and more. In addition, there are the popular full research paper competition, clinical case competition, e-posters and e-booths exhibitions. I look forward to welcoming you all online at the HKPCC 2022!

As announced previously, the “HKCFP Together We Fight the Virus Campaign 2022”, serves as appreciation of the great work being done by our College members during the 5th wave of the pandemic. Members who report via the Google Form (please click) on their participation towards combating the virus between 1 January and 30 June 2022 would receive an Appreciation Pack consisting of an appreciation letter and a free admission to HKPCC* (for replies received by 31 May 2022*). Let’s show our determination, unity and solidarity together as Family Doctors and fill in your reply via the Google Form link above if you have not already done so.

World Family Doctor Day (WFDD) – 19th May, first declared by WONCA in 2010, is a day to highlight the important contributions of Family Doctors and primary care teams in healthcare systems around the world, acknowledging the central role of Family Doctors in the delivery of personal, comprehensive and continuing health care for all patients. This year’s WFDD theme is “Family Doctors, Always There to Care!”. Our Council Members have helped to contribute towards compilations of photos showing our support to the WFDD 2022. Happy WFDD to everyone!
