13WONCA EXPRESSThe YDM PreconferenceThe YDM preconference, held just after the council meeting and before the main conference, is always a vibrant and enriching experience. This year, with the theme %u201cFuture Proofing Family Medicine,%u201d I had the honor of being part of the organizing committee. We curated a comprehensive program that addresses the diverse challenges facing our field. The workshops covered a range of essential topics, including planetary health, migrant health, HIV prevention, and the role of artificial intelligence in family medicine. These sessions are designed not only to enhance participants%u2019 understanding but also to equip them with practical skills and strategies they can implement in their practices. However, what truly sets the YDM preconference apart is the camaraderie that develops outside the formal sessions. The interactions between participants from various cultures foster friendships that extend beyond the conference hall, creating a supportive community of family doctors dedicated to improving global health.Mentorship: %u201cLift as You Climb%u201dA particularly poignant moment during the closing ceremony was the speech delivered by WONCA President Dr. Viviana Martinez Bianchi on the theme %u201cLift as You Climb.%u201d Her emphasis on mentorship and the importance of encouraging the next generation of family doctors resonated deeply with me. As a mentor in both the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians (HKCFP) mentorship programs, I have always sought to share my experiences and inspire others to pursue a career in family medicine. Mentorship is a vital component of our profession, fostering the growth of new family doctors who will carry our values and commitment forward. By sharing knowledge, providing guidance, and offering support, we can ensure that the next generation is well-equipped to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.ConclusionReflecting on my journey, I am immensely grateful for the opportunities I have had to serve as a young doctor representative and now as a member at large of WONCA. The experiences and connections I have made have deepened my commitment to family medicine and strengthened my resolve to advocate for young doctors and patients alike. As we move forward, I look forward to contributing to the development of family medicine and supporting new generation of family physicians who will shape the future of healthcare.WONCA president Dr. Viviana Martinez Bianchi (Left 5th) at the YDM closing ceremonyLunch with other regional YDM leads and upcoming global YDM LeadPresenting YDM projects and scholarships in WONCA councilWONCA Executive Committee 2025-2027
